Grist for the Mill: The Mellow Drama, Dying: An Opportunity for Awakening, Freeing the Mind, Karmuppance, God & Beyond by Ram Dass Average Rating: "This book really helped me bring more of my spiritual growth into my daily life. Most of the spiritual books I have read have been written by non-Americans with monastic backgrounds, and the disconnect in lifestyles has been the most difficult thing to bridge. I understand more fully now what the eastern teachers are talking about when they say that America has to create its own traditions from the teachings." Swami Paramahansa Yogananda's Super Advanced Course (Number 1 divided In twelve lessons) by Paramahansa Yogananda Average Rating: "All you SRF students can relax. Although from scanning this book, the Energizing Exercises, Hong Sau and Om were apparently sent out with these very first lessons, those techniques are not in this book.
Long ago I completed the SRF lessons up through the highest Kriyas, so I ordered this book to see what all the fuss was about. At least at one time these lessons were authorized by Yogoda Satsanga Society which preceded the Self-Realization Fellowship name. These lessons are probably the old lessons sent out to devotees by Amrita.
Each lesson is preceded by this statement: "This sacred lesson is meant only for the devoted Yogoda student who would untiringly and unceasingly, seek God until he finds Him." So indeed these lessons were meant to carry a very special spiritual vibration.
This edition is not the first time the lessons have been made public. Kessinger Publishing printed these lessons in August 2003. The book is sold through Amazon. The lessons are apparently a scan or photocopy since the font is of an older type, lacking the perfection of newer computerized fonts.
And SRFers--Don't you think that Yogananda could have prevented the publication of these lessons if he'd wanted to? Let's have some reality testing. Perhaps the publication of these older lessons is meant for an introduction to the superior SRF lessons of today.
The lessons are fun to read, but less polished than the lessons SRF now sends to students. The very first lesson in the Super Advanced Book is a lesson that doesn't appear in the regular lessons until the advanced Kriyas are sent out. The first lesson is on the spinal passageway and St. John's revelation. I have no idea why this lesson has been moved far ahead to the advanced Kriya lessons by SRF.
Like many decisions of SRF, we don't know if they are Yogananda's thoughts or the well meaning decisions of those who are in charge of the organization. When Yogananda first wrote these lessons, he didn't waste any time getting to the point. Of course now knowledge of the Kundalini and related topics are in the popular domain. Nevertheless there are many false ideas of what is meant by Kundalini. Yogananda clears up these misunderstandings.
The current SRF lessons are better organized and have better editing. If anyone wants to learn Yogananda's Kriya technique I'd advise subscribing to the regular lessons. A shorter path to Kriya is offered by Ananda in Nevada City, CA. The vibration is somewhat different there. Each student has to choose the path which feels more comfortable to him or her.

No Way: A Guide for the Spiritually "Advanced" by Ram Tzu Average Rating: "If you are serious in your pursuit of enlightenment you are in for a rough ride. Ram Tzu does not coddle. His truths are self evident to some and heresy even blaspheme to others. The pages of this book are filled with incredibly funny and intelligent paradox, that is all the more stunning because it is delivered at the most dizzying heights of mankind's most cherished beliefs.
Ram Tzu is a Zen Master's Master. And like a Zen Master of old if the Student is blinded by his own flame the Master smacks him, on occasion.
Ram Tzu laughs at you... But only when you need laughing at. An example form the book:
"Ram Tzu knows this...You indulge in self mprovement... and...All you have to show for it is an improved self."
If this makes you mad you missed the point. Losing the self is the point not improving it.
This book is not for the pius, those that take themeselves too seriously. To the truly enlightened, nothing is sacred. Ram Tzu is truly Enlightened." Publisher: Advaita Press | More reviews: amazon.com

The Collected Works of Ramana Maharshi by Ramana Maharshi Average Rating: "The vedic literature which is voluminous contains descriptions of various methods to realise God. Good number of books came in to light describing the methods eunciated in these scriptures. But most of the methods underline the need to have a Guru(Teacher)from whom only the secrets of sadhana(efforts)can be obtained. But Here is a great Maharshi who gives you a direct most simple technique ro realise God /Self. Only those blessed by God only would be drwan to his teachings which can be condensed to one line." The Himalayan Masters A Living Tradition by Pandit Rajmani Tigunait Average Rating: "In a nutshell, this book describes the lives of 8 saints who lived in the Himalayan mountains. The struggles they went through and eventually attaining Self-Realization is truly a source of inspiration for all those souls embarking on the spiritual path. It gives new hope to thousands of people who have decided to lead a holy life of Truth and Wisdom and are having problems in their spiritual quest. Most of the common problems faced by spiritual novices can be answered in this small and humble book.
In the last chapter of this priceless book, the author gives an in-depth perspective on the teachings of this book. This is indeed a valuable guide to all those deciding to do yoga and other spiritual practices.
In short, the only complaint I have about this book is that it is too short! 181 pages of wisdom does not reveal the true nature of spiritual "giants" who had lived in the Himalayas. Nevertheless, this book is a great introduction guide to these spiritual "giants"." Publisher: Himalayan Institute Press | More reviews: amazon.com
From the Finite to the Infinite by Swami Muktananda Average Rating: "This is an absolutely incredible book by a great yogic master. A must read for every seeker for the Truth. It is an indispensable roadmap for the often long and arduous journey to God-realization. Written in a stimulating question and answer format, it is a vast treasury of wisdom covering just about every aspect of this journey, including meditation, mantra, the mind, emotions, ego, Consciousness, the Guru, God, God-realization, Shakti-Kundalini, Shaktipat, and much, much more. The questions were raised by mostly Western seekers in different stages of spiritual development, from the beginner to the most advanced yogi who is on the verge of God-realization. They answered many of my own questions I've had for a long time, and as a result my meditation has immeasurably improved. And best of all, I now have the directions for the rest of my journey, complete with landmarks and warnings of hazardous conditions ahead! I am forever grateful to the author."
