How to Be Happy All the Time (v. 1)

How to Be Happy All the Time (v. 1)

by Paramhansa Yogananda

Average Rating:Average rating of 5/5

"The author of Autobiography of a Yogi brings out pearls of wisdom on how to be happy in this small but priceless book. Most of the sayings here are not found in his other works. The advise given here is so simple yet so difficult to follow for ordinary mortals like us.

However, if one is able to follow the advise here, his/her life would be filled with so much bliss. The language used in this book is also easy to digest and understand and the reader would feel a sense of friendship and closeness with the author just by reading and applying the words of wisdom in every day living.

In conclusion, I would strongly recommend this book to everyone, especially those who are suffering from depression. The reader would be uplifted by the words being written here. A very engaging and powerful book. "

Inner Peace: How to Be Calmly Active and Actively Calm

Inner Peace: How to Be Calmly Active and Actively Calm

by Paramahansa Yogananda

Average Rating:Average rating of 4.5/5

"The world is full of such misery. Where can we turn? Which club? Which therapy? Which religion? It seems that we have to do so much, in order to alleviate ourselves from something so constant and simple. Namely, suffering. We need to join clubs. To join religions. To go through initiations. To afford a therapist. The author of this book is my Guru. I give no weight to any other material. I was initiated as his devotee 26 years ago. The president of the organization that he founded, Self-Realization Fellowship, was a direct disciple of his for 21 years while he was living in our prescence. I live near most of their churches. I have talked extensively with their ministers and monks. But Yogananda was and is a well that you can dip your cup freely from and drink as much as you will. One is not seperated from time and space. His family is the world. Credentials and titles do not matter. This book is an example of what he taught.Simplicity and the simple fact that one can reach God on the opposite side of the planet from Self-Realization Fellowship Headquarters and be a garbage collector in an unknown part of the world, if one's love for God is intense enough. I am quite assured that if one read this little book 100 times and followed it's principles devotely, one would probably be a greater saint than anyone who lives near Self-Realization Fellowship headquarters, is a monk or nun of his organization, or those who knew him personally while he was living. He is all of ours. This book may be all you need! Others need more equipment and training, sorry to say. This book is very simplistic. Very simple. If I were stranded on a desert island, and I only had one book, I do believe it would be this one. I have all of Yogananda's lessons and service lectures bounded in my library. As well as all of his books, recordings, and the words of his devotees. And all of the yogic methods that he taught. But if one would take a tiny book such as this, and folow it with ferverous devotion, I have no doubt that eventually such a one would go as fast spititually as anyone anyplace and at anytime. Yes. I do like the book."

The Ending of Time

The Ending of Time

by Jiddu Krishnamurti

Average Rating:Average rating of 4/5

"Having read many books by Krishnmaurti and 'Wholeness and the Implicate Order' by Bohm, I was still not prepared for the deep insight explosion this wonderful book caused in myself. I recommend wholeheartitly for the Krishnamurti reader who finds him or herself pouring over similar and reoccuring themes in Krishnamurti books and not quite grasping the subject matter. This book owes a lot to the penetrating dissection by Bohm of Krishnamurti's dialogue. As I read along I found myself questioning what Krishnamurti was talking about and wishing I could have it clarified, only to have Bohm ask the question I was asking myself, and consequently, answering the question. How wonderful. Although Krishnamurti has been in dialogue with many sharp minds nothing that I have read comes close to the genius of Bohm at uncovering in plain language these difficult discussions. This book is fantastic. Excuse my expression but the book is truly 'mindblowing'. All this is obtained through what is easily percieved as the non-egotistical approach of two humble and caring people. 6 stars!"

The Essential Teachings of Ramana Maharshi: A Visual Journey

The Essential Teachings of Ramana Maharshi: A Visual Journey

by Matthew Greenblatt

Average Rating:Average rating of 5/5

"This book has become one of my favorites. It is filled with clear black and white photographs of Ramana Maharshi. Inserted on the pictures are GEMS of Ramana's teachings. The quotes are distilled and arranged in such a way to make them tremendously potent. I read a few pages at a time as I look at the pictures. I start feeling enlightenment. The words are dripping with profound simple insight into our apparent condition. The phantom self begins to drop away, peace begins to bring it's light, there is no need to seek. There is nowhere we need to go, it's all center, nobody's going anywhere. Time and space are but an illusion. Reading the words in this book. It's so simple and clear. All seeking, even religious seeking assume a separation from the infinite but the infinite is always here and now. Seeking objectifies and distances the infinite from us. It can even strenghthen the ego, now one has become a super holier than thou ego. There might be a certain readiness needed for this teaching. Some methods use seeking and a distance from God. Sometimes one needs to keep seeking because of all the commotion going on in one's soul. A tempest is blasting in one's soul and sometimes we are too in a hurry to be in the present. We've got things to do and places to go, you know. If you've begun to see the futility of seeking then you are ready for this book. You'll experience quiet, peace and stillness and an ordinary contentment with what is. What you feel after this depends on how much you contemplate and meditate upon these words and finally go beyond them into your REAL SELF. There is the phantom self and your REAL SELF. This book can help you find your REAL SELF that has been here all along, remember...?"

Integral Yoga Hatha

Integral Yoga Hatha

by Sri Swami Satchidananda

Average Rating:Average rating of 5/5

"A seminal book on hatha that takes a gentle, thorough and, above all, healthy approach to yoga's physical aspects. It's all here--poses, meditation, breathing, even the more esoteric cleansing practices. All of it conveyed with the author's injunction to listen to your body and progress steadily and surely. This is not for the "power yoga" crowd who do hatha for a beautiful bod. You can beautify yourself with this program, but the focus is on developing the whole person--body, mind and spirit. A truly integral, and integrated, approach."

Krishnamurti to Himself: His Last Journal

Krishnamurti to Himself: His Last Journal

by Jiddu Krishnamurti

Average Rating:Average rating of 5/5

"Krishnamurti's last journal was spoken into a tape recorder at his home, the Pine Cottage, in the Ojai Valley. In the last two years of his long life, here the spiritual teacher is most intimate, and so gentle yet with complete candor. The chapters are brief and I found I was reading one just before turning the light off each nigfht. Each chapter begins with reflections on the day, usually began with a pre-dawn walk in the mountains, encounters with wildlife, meditation. The reflections are on nature, death, the possibility of total transformation of the mind, of time and the self. Krishnamurti is a favorite author-teacher, and I have collected and read most everything by him readily available. Krishnamurti can be slow reading, ponderous and even sometimes a bit impenetrable. But here he is clear and the most profound truths are found to be the most simple. Reading a chapter each night is both powerfully transformative and a pleasure, This is my favorite of the Krishnamurti books, one which I have used to introduce friends to this extraordinary man."

Maturity: The Responsibility of Being Oneself (Osho, Insights for a New Way of Living.)

Maturity: The Responsibility of Being Oneself (Osho, Insights for a New Way of Living.)

by Osho

Average Rating:Average rating of 4/5

"So much of what passes for popular culture in America encourages us to remain in perpetual adolescence. And those who urge us to be "mature" so often seem dull, serious and sad. These pages, on the other hand, are full of the grace, humor and wisdom that come from embracing the years as they come. There's a fascinating chapter on the seven-year cycles of life that goes far beyond Gail Sheehy's "Passages" -- and the pages of the book are sprinkled with specially-formatted quotes that will stick with you for days, gathering new meaning and significance over time."
