Divine Soul Songs: Sacred Practical Treasures to Heal, Rejuvenate, and Transform You, Humanity, Mother Earth, and All Universes

Divine Soul Songs: Sacred Practical Treasures to Heal, Rejuvenate, and Transform You, Humanity, Mother Earth, and All Universes

by Zhi Gang Sha

Average Rating:Average rating of 4.5/5

"I was privileged to room with someone at a recent event and she received a preview copy of the new book, Divine Soul Songs, released June 9th. I asked her if I could take a look at it. She agreed. I was blown away.

I was familiar with soul songs, soul song singing, for the past couple years and when I heard this book was going to be published I couldn't wait to see it, study it, and benefit from the practical treasures it contains. This book delivers. What I have found with all of Dr. Sha's books is that they deliver more than is expected. He teaches, heal the soul first and the mind and body will follow.

In February I discovered my younger brother was diagnosed with a brain tumor - it was extremely aggressive and within a month he was in hospice care. I returned home to be with him before he died. I took with me a few CDs - Love Peace and Harmony, and God Gives His Heart to Me. I told the hospice staff I wanted to play these CDs continuously for him as he made his transition. They agreed and he was in deep peace in his soul as he made his transition.

My brother and I had been estranged for 12 long years. I never knew why he stopped talking to me. When I heard about his diagnosis, I asked my mother if he wanted to talk to me and she said no. The tumor was affecting his whole right side and his speech. I began doing one of the simple, practical techniques outlined in Master Sha's last book, The Power of Soul (chapter 10 - for healing relationships). I did the practice twice for 5 and 10 minutes respectively. After the 2nd time doing it my brother called me 3 days later! I couldn't believe it. I had done all kinds of other practices for healing relationships (I'm an RN, clinical hypnotherapist, Reiki master teacher, and teacher of several other healing modalities - NONE of these practices touched this estrangement). It was like I had my little brother back. We had a great conversation.

I asked him if I could send him healing. He said he was willing to do anything to try to heal. I sang him a soul song - it was a soul song given to me by Divine, called Love & Joy. He enjoyed the song very much. He said it gave him deep inner peace and joy. I was so happy I could sing to him and that it had this soothing affect on his soul.

The great thing about soul songs is you don't have to be a great singer to sing your soul's song. Some soul songs are very deep, gutteral, releasing pain and suffering. Others are very light, happy, joyful. What's great is you can express your soul through sound. I agree with David, if you want to know if soul songs can help you, read this book. There are embedded divine blessings with these pages that can transform your life. Try it!"

You Can Heal Your Life

You Can Heal Your Life

by Louise Hay

Average Rating:Average rating of 4.5/5

"You Can Heal Your Life (Gift Edition) is all about using your thoughts to fix the problems in your life. What kind of problems? Well, the book specifically looks into healing some pretty major life areas: relationships, work, success, prosperity, and your body. But wait a minute, did I say the book is using thoughts to heal your body? What's up with that? Is that even possible? Well, after reading this book, I think in many cases, yes, it is possible.

While I think it is the way to go to treat things such as an acute appendicitis with surgery, fractures with a cast, and pneumonia with antibiotics, there are many conditions where conventional medicine blatently falls short. Of course I'm talking about health problems such as migraines, backaches, or stomach ulcers- you know, those kinds of nagging disorders where we all know that stress/mental processes DO play a role. But while few would argue that psychological factors can cause an ulcer, what about more serious conditions such as, say, arthritis?

Well it may not be too far fetched. Consider this. One study of 1,198 subjects found that only 56% of men with SEVERE knee arthritis had any pain (Lawrence 1966). Another study X-rayed 84 seventy-nine year-olds and 76 eighty-five year-olds and found that only 43% of them with SEVERE knee arthritis had any pain complaints (Bagge 1991). There are plenty more examples in the scientific literature, but obviously there two alone show us that there is NO clear-cut association between severe knee arthritis and pain.

ON THE OTHER HAND, when one looks at the relationship between psychological variables and knee arthritis, one does see a clear association. For instance, one study looked at 65 patients (ages 55 to 87) with hip and/or knee arthritis. X-rays, pain, depression levels, anxiety levels, coping styles, and functional impairment were all assessed. The findings? Researchers discovered that the severity of one's arthritis showed little relationship to pain, BUT, psychological variables were strong predictors of who had pain and how impaired they were (Summers 1988).

Along the same lines, Salaffi examined 61 women (ages 51-79) with knee arthritis. Here again, results showed that how disabled someone was, was more related to psychological variables than how bad their knee looked on an X-ray film. Interestingly, both anxiety and depression WERE important predictors of pain (Salaffi 1991). Any one conducting a literature review on Medline will find more such examples IF you're looking for them. While I used knee arthritis as an example, there are MANY more studies on other health problems with similar findings.

All of this should be causing us to raise an eyebrow. The literature is telling us that it is far from being clear cut that things like bad knee arthritis ALWAYS mean pain. And the research is also giving us clues that the mind and our thought processes definitely play a role. So the question now becomes, if bad thought patterns can play a role in health problems such as arthritis, why not in other diseases such as cancer, as the book suggests?

You be the judge. I found that the main value in this book was getting me to look at how our thinking does influence the functioning of our bodies- as well as our life in general. Note that I'm NOT saying that you can think yourself well all the time either.

Remember that while Louise Hay did change her thought patterns and was cured of cancer, she has also written that she used other alternative treatments as well, such as foot reflexology and colon therapy (Chapter 16). Therefore, my advice is to look at ALL the options when dealing with a health problem, one MAJOR one being changing your mental patterns (which is the what the book does a nice job of addressing). And for this reason, I can recommend this book to anyone who needs physical healing or otherwise. Other alternative healing books of interest include The Divided Mind: The Epidemic of Mindbody Disorders and The 5-Minute Plantar Fasciitis Solution. Thank you Louise Hay!

Shaman, Healer, Sage: How to Heal Yourself and Others with the Energy Medicine of the Americas

Shaman, Healer, Sage: How to Heal Yourself and Others with the Energy Medicine of the Americas

by Alberto Villoldo Ph.D.

Average Rating:Average rating of 4/5

"This book has completely changed my life, as well as the lives of the many people I have touched, since reading Shaman, Healer Sage in late 2003. After finding myself (totally unexpectedly) on the path of shamanism, I found and read this book. I will admit, I did have many reservations on much of the books teachings. Frankly, it just didn't seem possible that such a profound level of healing, could be so simple. I mean, if it was this easy, why hadn't I heard of it before, or come across someone who was a shaman and could do these wondrous things. At 50 years old, I really didn't know what a shaman was, short of the 1992 Sean Connery movie "Medicine Man", in which the diminutive shaman (who Connery had made very angry) scared the hell out of me. Not a good start for me.

Anyway, I had just spent several months, looking for someone to teach me about shamanism. After reading his book, I decided that the good Dr. was probably a very good place to start. I read two more of his books, just because I'm an eternal skeptic, then I reread Shaman, Healer Sage again. Did I mention that I'm a skeptic???

I began formal study with Dr. Villoldo and his staff of shaman instructors in July of 2004. The work of the south was true to the teachings of the book, and I saw (and experienced) healing work that I still find unbelievable. The teachings are just as simple and eloquent as the book that led me to these classes. I found the same to be true about the next two classes. The gifts of healing I have learned so far, have allowed me to heal people of both physical and psychological ailments. In some cases, these people have been treated for, and suffered from these illnesses, for several years. I do not take credit for this work. If you have read the book, you will know why.

I am leaving for two more weeks of study in March of 2005. I read Shaman, Healer Sage before I leave for every class. I noticed that many of my fellow students who took the class on the teachings of the west, seemed to have their copy of the book with them. I believe that not only does the book serve as a helpful reference to what we are learning, but it also serves as an inspiration to those of us who have dedicated our lives to this calling.

Before I close this, I would like to say that I do not intend what I write in this review, to make anyone think this road is an easy one to follow. Much to the contrary. To learn, and apply Dr. Villoldo's teachings take total commitment, and intentions that must be pure. It isn't something you do on a whim, as your entire life will never be the same, and you won't either. This is a serious way of life, that is sometimes a heavy weight to carry. I will say that to be able to do something about someone's suffering, instead of standing by and watching them suffer, is a gift that goes beyond any gift I could ever imagine. I can think of nothing more wonderful to do for someone, than to remove their pain.

If you are going to read one book on shamanism, read Shaman, Healer Sage. You will be glad you did. To Dr. Villoldo, who has taught me so much, as well as all of the teachers who taught him, and the people who are instructors in his classes, I (and the people I have healed) thank you.

Please pray for the healing of the earth and all of her people.

How to Heal Toxic Thoughts: Simple Tools for Personal Transformation

How to Heal Toxic Thoughts: Simple Tools for Personal Transformation

by Sandra Ingerman

Average Rating:Average rating of 5/5

"Author Sandra Ingerman is a therapist and self-described shaman practitioner. In her introduction to this book, she explains that shamanism is an ancient form of spiritual healing, and she talks about how shamans help address what is going on "beyond the skin," or at the unseen level of the spirit. More simply put, Ingerman suggests that instead of appropriately expressing our negative energy (eg, making a statement such as "I am frustrated"), we frequently and harmfully project our negative energy out into the world. Therefore, her book strives to teach readers to change their patterns of reaction and to transform their negative energy into something more positive.

Although the above might sound overly mystical or new-agey, in reality, Ingerman's book is quite practical. It is filled with helpful exercises, many of which are similar to techniques I use in my work as a psychologist. The very first exercise involves simply breathing deeply into the abdomen (aka diaphragmatic breathing) and reflecting; other breathing exercises utilize conscious breathing to attain calm or balance. Many of the exercises also employ various visualization techniques, but again, these are presented in a fairly concrete, straightforward manner (eg, imagining a place in nature that you love). Ingerman incorporates additional modalities as well, from those that are more verbally-oriented (words of energy, decree statements, and journal writing) to those that are a bit more abstract (various protective techniques used to shield yourself from negativism in a toxic world).

One of the things I liked best about this book was Ingerman's emphasis on choice--ie, although things happen to us that we cannot control, we can ALWAYS choose how we respond to the events around us. This is something I frequently discuss with my clients, as acknowledging choice can go a long way towards reducing depression, anxiety, and hopelessness. Although some people might shy away from the somewhat spiritual nature of this book, it is a well-done self-help guide offering clear, simple guidelines for moving towards greater positive well-being in your life, and it is likely to appeal to a wide audience."

Quantum-Touch Core Transformation: A New Way to Heal and Alter Reality

Quantum-Touch Core Transformation: A New Way to Heal and Alter Reality

by Alain Herriott

Average Rating:Average rating of 5/5

"I bought this book after taking the Quantum Touch Core classes. Yes, you can learn the techniques from the book and, yes, the author gives a clear and thorough explanation of the procedures and the underlying view of reality and healing involved. For those who have not done energy work before the concepts and practices described in this book are very different from the usual modern mindset and may be very difficult to understand. I highly recommend that anyone interested in learning this very rewarding field first read "Quantum Touch: The Power to Heal", practice the methods given in that book so that you will understand that you are dealing with a real and useful system and take some of the live classes given by the Quantum Touch organization.

All that said, I give this book a clear 5 stars. It is a great resource, a great review for those who have taken the Core classes and a great advance in the art of energy healing."

Sacred Choices: Thinking Outside the Tribe to Heal Your Spirit

Sacred Choices: Thinking Outside the Tribe to Heal Your Spirit

by Christel Nani

Average Rating:Average rating of 5/5

"I have never written a book review before. It's not because I haven't wanted to, but because I have believed, since high school, that I am a lousy writer. I would have never considered writing anything on such a public forum before this because of an incident in one English class that resulted in this limiting belief about myself.

Christel Nani, in her third book, Sacred Choices: Thinking Outside the Tribe to Heal Your Spirit, explains what tribal beliefs are and how they can not only limit your life and true potential but impact you daily, causing you to make unconscious choices. Tribal beliefs are limiting beliefs you have about all areas of your life--family, love, work, health, God, and of course, for me, writing--that you learn growing up from your family, school, church, and other significant people in your life; they drive your behavior unconsciously.

Christel's well written, easy to follow guide allowed me to identify many beliefs that rule my life. The multiple examples she gives throughout the book aided in unearthing tribal beliefs in my life that would have otherwise remained deeply hidden. Reading Christel's book helped me see how these beliefs have kept me from living the kind of life I want. Her guidelines for rewriting a tribal belief are practical and easy. Discovering that I didn't have to change my belief of being a lousy writer all the way to "I can write like an eloquent, best-selling author" freed me from my all-or-nothing thinking. Changing that belief to "It is reasonable to believe that I can write in an articulate, succinct way about something I strongly believe in and feel passionate about" allowed a shift to occur.

So here I am writing my first book review because I wanted to share something I believe in and feel passionate about...changing a tribal belief held for over 35 years is possible and so freeing! By reading the personal stories Christel writes about in her book, you, too, will be inspired to identify a few of your own tribal beliefs and rewrite those that have kept you stuck. It can forever change your life!"
