Human Personality and Its Survival of Bodily Death (Studies in Consciousness) by F. W. H. Myers Average Rating: "This is THE seminal work by THE premier researcher of the heyday of psychical research. It was originally published around 1900. If you don't own this, there is a huge gap in your library. It is basically the only thing in the field of psychical research that Myers ever published because he died at age 50, but he was truly one of the gods of psychical research. He was a classical scholar, and this is reflected in the quality of this work. His theories as to "What Its All About" do not make for easy reading, but they have greatly influenced all subsequent thinking in the field of personal survival. Myers is perhaps best known for what he accomplished after death: communicating from the "other side" through Piper, Verrall and other mediums, he was the source of the "cross-correspondences" which are widely regarded as some of the best evidence for personal survival. Anyway, if your reading concerning life after death has been confined to works published in the 1980s and 90s (George Anderson, Rosemary Altea, et al.), your mind will be blown by the quality and seriousness of the work done by researchers like Myers 100 years ago." The Other Side of Death by Jan Price Average Rating: "I read this book about two years ago, it still remains one of the most powerful books I have ever encountered; and it will remain so for the rest of my life. I thank you Jan.I lost my very dear friend, 'Q-Dee', a most charming little 5 lb black male poodle about six years ago. Q-Dee was with me for about 5 years. The name 'Q-Dee', in the Chinese language, means 'Let-it-be little brother'. I named him that because he had a major heart problem when I got him from a breeder who was supposed to sell me a healthy dog. Well, I was cheated on that. But that was another story. Every time I held Q-Dee was a celebration. I was very connected to Q-Dee. He was a charmer, I often told Q-Dee. Finally I had to give him up to the Humane Society, because of his heart problem. I cried and prayed often for Q-Dee, because I missed him so. One day I bought this book, wanting to read about near death experience. To my surprise Jan actually talked about her dog! This pleasant surprise uplifted me totally..... I no longer felt sad, or felt bad for my giving up of (my guilt) Q-Dee. Quite often, I would ask my 6 year old teacup size Yorkie, who was a baby while Q-Dee was around, "Did Q-Dee come to visit you today?" and I'd smile trying to look for an answer from Little Girl (my Yorkie). Each time I was hoping Little Girl would look at me and say "Yes, woof woof." But, she just looked at me as if she did not know what I was talking about; and that was so cute in her own innocent way. The important thing to me is that (1) I know Q-Dee is well, healthy, happy and knows so much, and (2) that he can come to visit us whenever he wants, protecting Little Girl, because little Girl is so tiny.I thank you so much, Jan, again ....." The Lost Secret of Death: Our Divided Souls and the Afterlife: Our Divided Souls and the Afterlife by Peter Novak Average Rating: "This book was probably the biggest reading disappointment I have had in the last five years of reading. True, there is a lot of interesting material presented on the Binary Soul Doctrine. However, I found the author's subsequent logic and conclusions so suspect at times that I ended up doubting the veracity of his initial material on BSD.
The material on near-death and out-of-body experiences, past-life regression and ghosts, while interesting and perhaps relevant to the BSD, in no way invalidates other non-BSD theories regarding their origination or nature of their behavior. For example, the author emphasizes the aimless meanderings and seemingly pointless activities of apparitions from certain reported cases for the purpose of supporting the BSD. However, this assertion ignores the implication that can be drawn from the numerous cases where apparitions appear to be completely engaged in both their intellect and emotions.
The most disappointing aspect of this book was the way in the which the author diligently, but with little supporting evidence or reasoning, shoe-horns a conclusion based on the binary soul doctrine into an affirmation of the Judeo-Christian faith. Using some of the weirdest, twisted reasoning I've ever encountered, the author asserts that, while Jesus did not really die for our sins, he did take out a really big loan from the cosmic bank account to cover everyone's "karmic" debt. And, so, you see, we all end up "owing" him in the end anyway. If that's the case, then, the next question should probably be, "Who the hell gave him permission to do that?" If your sincere answer is "God", then you may like this book.
However, if you are a person interested in the phenomenon of the potential survival of the human consciousness but do not crave the affirmation (or denial) of any particular religious belief, then you might want to scan this book before buying it.
Finally, this book claims to provide information on developing a "self" that won't disintegrate at death. A worthy idea but don't expect to find much useful here on that topic.

Journeys Beyond Life: True Accounts of Next World Experiences by Arvin S. Gibson Average Rating: "Having read multiple books on this topic of near death experiences and what transpires at the moment of death I found these stories to be very concise. Numerous accounts that get right to the point. What happened to cause their NDE and what they saw and experienced. This book offers an extensive collection of stories a few pages each. (Just the way I like it.)
definitely not boring and very thought provoking." Publisher: Horizon Publishers & Distributors | More reviews: amazon.com
At the Hour of Death: A New Look at Evidence for Life After Death by Karlis Osis Average Rating: "Anyone interest in near death experiences or life after death should strongly consider reading this book. The research involved here is some of the most extensive, albeit exhausing I have ever read on any subject. The authors, all MD's, have exercised the utmost diligence and honesty in researching, compiling, and analyzing data from both India and the U.S. on this very vital, but often abused subject. The reading can be tedious at times and very much text book in nature. Also, don't expect any profound conclusions or revelations about the research from the authors either. They have opted for a very conservative and non-commital conclusion to their vast research. The reader must draw his or her own conclusions. For those who desire a well-researched and documented book where the author expresses an opinion in no uncertain terms, read Tom Harpur's outstanding "Life After Death" ... ." Life Between Life by Joel L. Whitton Average Rating: "This book is fine for people new to the topic. It details how events in past lives affect what's happening in the current one. Has only a smattering of info about life BETWEEN lives. Also tells of famous cases historically. But if you've already read very much on the subject, read Journey of Souls by Michael Newton (and see the reviews), which tells ALL about life between lives."
