Inner Work: Using Dreams and Active Imagination for Personal Growth

Inner Work: Using Dreams and Active Imagination for Personal Growth

by Robert A. Johnson

Average Rating:Average rating of 5/5

"It is difficult to imagine how powerful this small book is. Granted, it is probably most appealing to intuitives and introverts, like myself, but for us, it is like manna from heaven. Johnson has such a gift for putting things simply. The book can be read quickly but may well take a lifetime to permeate your consciousness. As a professional astrologer, VisionCoach and expert Tarot symbolist, one of the most frequent questions I am asked by old and new clients is this: "I had this dream, Nancy. What does it mean?" In spite of ongoing research on my part, personally leading dream groups and reading the new books that come out each year, I always return to Johnson's classic. He's said it all. I think "Inner Work" is, quite simply, the best book ever written about dream interpretation. Each of our dreams is as personal as our fingerprints. If you are an extravert, you may not dream often or you may dream the kind of dreams that are just processing the minute business of the day. At least once in awhile, though, even the most extraverted of us has a Major Dream, a dream that wakes us with a cold sweat or a warm pulse. What does this mean? What is communicating here? Why to you? And why NOW? Johnson's book puts all these questions squarely back on your own shoulders for answerung, for ... inner work!! But don't worry, he doesn't just drop you off in the middle of the nowhere without a map. This book contains all the information you need to become an expert at interpreting your own dreams. This is important because, as the great Swiss transcendental psychologist Carl Jung wrote, "God speaks in dream.""

Fortune-Telling Book of Dreams

Fortune-Telling Book of Dreams

by Andrea McCloud

Inspired by a vintage book, this delightful guide deciphers dreams to predict the future. It compiles over 1,000 dream symbols and reveals what they portend for the dreamer. This gilded, faux-leather book is irresistible to pick up; its content is so compelling, it's impossible to put down.

The Dream Book: Symbols for Self Understanding

The Dream Book: Symbols for Self Understanding

by Betty Bethards

Average Rating:Average rating of 4.5/5

"I myself am a dream interpreter with my own dream interpreting site in which I encourage people to learn how to interpret their own dreams. This book is my #1 preference for people to consider first, because it is logical as well as spiritual. So many dream symbol books are hokey and just plain ridiculous, but this one simply makes sense and helps the dreamer better evaluate their dreams. This book can help you gain better understanding of your subconscious mind's inner workings via dream interpretation so you can better follow your intuition to clear the cobwebs of confusion & uncertainty out of your life. I highly recommend this book and commend the author, Betty Bethards."

The Complete Dream Book, 2nd edition: Discover What Your Dreams Reveal about You and Your Life (Complete Dream Book)

The Complete Dream Book, 2nd edition: Discover What Your Dreams Reveal about You and Your Life (Complete Dream Book)

by Gillian Holloway

Average Rating:Average rating of 3.5/5

"Got a dream dictionary and find it useless? Think using a dream dictionary is like trying to form a cohesive picture from a thousand-piece jigsaw puzzle where all the pieces are cut exactly the same? The Complete Dream Book takes a different angle on dream interpretation.
Based on a database of over 18,000 dreams, the author provides real-life interpretation of common dreams. There are common dreams that occur during certain stages of life, at certain ages, and during certain changes and situations.
This book looks at these common themes in dreams and what they mean to the dreamer. While she does cover common dream symbols such as cars, houses and the like, the fascinating part of the book is the common themes (can't get your locker door open or finding an new room in your home or finding a treasure, for examples).
This is the most useful and pragmatic dream interpretation book that I have ever read and I found myself regularly commenting about how appropriate an interpretation was for a particular dream of mine.
Kudos to Gillian Holloway for what has to be one of the most useful dream interpretation books on the market today."

The Tibetan Yogas of Dream and Sleep

The Tibetan Yogas of Dream and Sleep

by Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche

Average Rating:Average rating of 5/5

"After reading Sogyal Rinpoche's "Tibetan Book of Living and Dying", I was intrigued by the practice of "Dream Yoga", which, although mentioned and discussed several times in Sogyal's book, was never covered in any depth. "Living and Dying" didn't include any instructions in the practice of this exercise either, so I decided to look elsewhere. While glancing through the Eastern Religion section of a local bookstore, I stumbled upon this fine little volume.Wangyal Rinpoche delivers more than a guide to the practice of Dream Yoga- he delivers a guide to a complete nondual practice. The book includes meditation instructions, Guru Yoga and Dakini practices, breathing instructions, a guide to basic Tibetan bioenergetics, a little history of the Bon tradition, a brief introduction to Tantra and Dzogchen, and even a glossary filled with Tibetan and Sanskrit terms used throughout the book. There is enough here to begin a spiritual practice beyond dream yoga.To the seeker looking for a guide to Tibetan mysticism, look no further- "The Tibetan Yogas of Dream and Sleep" is the perfect introduction."

Dreamer's Dictionary

Dreamer's Dictionary

by Stearn Robinson

Average Rating:Average rating of 4/5

"Having closely examined literally dozens of dream books from the name-du-jour to Carl Jung, since I first acquired a dog-eared copy The Dreamer's Dictionary 19 years ago, I must conclude that people dream differently. But for me, whether a symbol is dreamed, or wanders across the floor at some revealing moment, I trust the Dreamer's Dictionary to illuminate the meaning. In my life quest I have established many useful methods -- and one of those is to use my manually scanned & OCR'd copy of T.D.D. to do quick searches. It's very revealing. I can say this, about my supposition on dreamers: even when I examine the dreams of OTHERS I have found this book accurate and helpful about 85% of the time -- and that it is a big improvement over the others I have tried."

The Interpretation of Dreams (Oxford World's Classics)

The Interpretation of Dreams (Oxford World's Classics)

by Sigmund Freud

Average Rating:Average rating of 4/5

"Make up your own mind about Freud, but in the meantime, this is one of his great works that anyone can read without having technical knowledge about psychology. Freud included much about his own dreams, and the reader will suspect that he didn't "tell all" about his own introspection--nor would most of us! But this work, along with "The Psychopathology of Everyday Life" and "Wit and Its Relation to the Unconscious" are for all readers. It is worth your while to peruse one of the most influential books in human history. As for the violence of the controversy that Freud inspires--well, that vehemence must mean something: a hundred years later, we are still at it. Decide for yourself."

Dream Dictionary: An A to Z Guide to Understanding Your Unconscious Mind

Dream Dictionary: An A to Z Guide to Understanding Your Unconscious Mind

by Tony Crisp

Average Rating:Average rating of 3.5/5

"If this book popped up on your recommendation list next to a few others about dream interpretation, and you're only going to buy one..pick this one. Tony Crisp's "Dream Dictionary" is by far the most enlightening book on this subject that I have. If the subject interests you, it's fun to have a few different books by different authors to cross reference. But again, if you're only going to get one book on dreams, chose this one over any other. I found Crisp to have a much more realistic look into the subconcious than, say, Gustavus Miller ("The Dictionary of Dreams..") who seemed to have only three standard explanations of dreams... (death/illness, doom or good fortune). I find myself referring to Crisp's "Dream Dictionary" several times a week."

I Had the Strangest Dream...: The Dreamer's Dictionary for the 21st Century

I Had the Strangest Dream...: The Dreamer's Dictionary for the 21st Century

by Kelly Sullivan Walden

Average Rating:Average rating of 5/5

"This is the most modern dream book I have EVER seen, that uses modern day symbols and has definitions that actually make sense. I have tried a LOT of dream dictionaries, and this is the best of the lot, I got rid of my others. You won't find anything like if you dream of ice cream you'll have an unexpected visitor bring you a million dollars.
Make sure you don't skip over the Introduction! There is invaluable information in there.
I can't praise this book enough. For people who want to work with their dreams without being overwhelmed, this book is the answer. It's possible to go as deep as you want with this book, and also to get a good grasp of your dreams in a quick time.
Thanks Kelly!!!"
